“Our winter haven is St. Pete and our home base is Albert Whitted. We usually fly our Cirus SR22 down for the winter for the convenience of flying back to Michigan when needed and enjoying day trips around Florida.
We love the convenience of the airport and the many amenities including “The Hangar” restaurant. It’s often a date-night destination even when we’re not planning on flying! But when we are flying it’s so much fun to enter the pattern and fly along the water’s edge enjoying the view of beautiful downtown St. Petersburg.
Downtown St. Petersburg is unique in its offerings from The Vinoy, the Pier and marina, parks, restaurants, and museums (we love to walk to The Dali from the airport). But what sets it apart from other cities is the airport at the water’s edge, within walking distance of all these wonderful offerings. With its claim of the first commercial flight, it has an important link to history that should be celebrated and preserved. Albert Whitted adds to the diversity of attractions that have drawn so many residents and visitors. It’s a vital part of the vibrancy of the city and needs to be protected.”
