2024 Flight Scholarships Awarded!

The Friends of Albert Whitted Airport recently celebrated a momentous occasion at the second annual Scholarship Event held at Albert Whitted Airport in St. Petersburg, FL, on February 10, 2024.

This special event was dedicated to the announcement of the 2024 flight scholarship recipients, marking a significant step forward in supporting the aspirations of young individuals eager to soar the skies. A total of thirty deserving students, aged between 16 and 24, were honored with scholarships designed to fuel their dreams of becoming pilots. These scholarships, meticulously categorized into starter ($1,000 each), intermediate ($5,000 each), and advanced ($10,000 each) levels, not only provide substantial financial support but also reflect the organization’s deep belief in the potential and passion of these budding aviators.

Highlighting the event was the presence of a true aviation pioneer, Captain Barrington Irving, who stood as the featured speaker. Captain Irving, renowned for setting two world records in 2007 as the youngest person and the first black man to pilot a plane solo around the world, shared his inspiring journey of challenges, perseverance, and triumph. His dedication to education and empowering youth in STEM fields, particularly through his non-profit organization, Experience Aviation, and the innovative Flying Classroom, underscores the importance of dreams and determination in achieving success.

The Friends of Albert Whitted Airport’s commitment to connecting the community to aviation’s past, present, and future, alongside Captain Irving’s motivational message, underscored the event’s celebration of the bright futures awaiting these young aviators in the world of aviation.
