Awarded in 2023!

Friends of Albert Whitted Airport kicked off their inaugural round of flight scholarships with an uplifting award ceremony held at Sheltair Aviation on Saturday, April 1st, honoring the 19 St. Pete area young people (ages 16-24) who were awarded aviation scholarships.

A crowd of 130 people including parents and the general public along with six St. Petersburg City Council members joined in celebrating the recipients.

Inspiration filled the hangar with a keynote presentation by internationally acclaimed aviator, mentor, and STEM+ educator, Capt. Barrington Irving, followed by encouraging words and inspiration from Certified Flight Instructor Barbie Hedge and former USAF pilot, commercial airline captain, and current Council member Ed Montanari.

These 19 scholarships were designed specifically to open a local pathway to workforce and professional careers in the aviation industry.
