On Feb. 10, Friends of Albert Whitted Airport awarded $166,000 in flight training scholarships to 30 individuals in St. Petersburg, aged 16-24, aiming to support students who face barriers in accessing aviation training. The scholarships are designed to open a local pathway to aviation careers, particularly for those from historically underrepresented groups such as women and minorities.

Meet Friends of AWA flight scholarship recipient Kathryn Bremer

Twenty-one-year-old Kathryn Bremer moved to St. Petersburg from Key West, Florida, last year to pursue her dreams of becoming an airline pilot, learning to fly at Albert Whitted Airport’s flight school, St. Pete Air.

Nathan Van Coops, accompanied by his loyal pup Atticus, is a well-known and friendly face around the field at Albert Whitted Airport. You can find him flying around in his 1957 Cessna 172 or tinkering with various aircraft parts in his hangar.
